There is nothing that says October more than a pumpkin – from pumpkin pie to scary jack o’lanterns, here are five places to go for fun, pumpkin style.

Chappell Farms, Barrie area – Pumpkin Festival and Haunted Adventures runs daily through the month of October. Farmyard animals, hay maze, bale fun, Trike track, Sand diggers, wagon rides into the pumpkin patch. On weekends and holidays they also offer magic shows, live entertainment, a bouncy castle and haunted barn.

My daughter and grandson with an odd choice of pumpkin at Chappell Farms – Hayden (aka Batman) just had to wear his costume!

Drysdale’s Tree Farm, south of Barrie – Come during the day (10-4) for family adventure at the Harvest Village and Haunted Wagon Rides through Frightful Forest. Night times (7-10) are scarier with the Psycho Path Ride (suitable for ages 14-plus).

Discovery Harbour, Penetanguishene – Pumpkinferno runs Thursday to Sunday in October. Check out the amazing carved pumpkin display against the night time backdrop of the historic site on Penetanguishene Bay. There are mazes and crafts for all ages, and a Terror Zone for older children and adults who dare.
