KICX Hometown Heroes
hometownKICX 106 salutes Hometown Heroes! Here's your chance to nominate someone you think represents a Hometown Hero. A Firefighter - a cub or guide leader - a dedicated volunteer - a local person serving in our Military - someone who has received a special award - a doctor, nurse or teacher. Who do you know that represents a Hometown Hero? Tell us your Hometown Heroe and if possible send us a picture too! Jack and Carey will feature someone every Friday.
This week's Hero

Jane Ramage
Jane Ramage a local nurse who lives in Oro-Medonte, was in Afghanistan last year from June 3 to Sept. 15, working in the intensive care unit of a hospital. Now she is being recognized by the military for her service in Afghanistan.

She will receive an award known as the General Service Medal for the second time. Her first service assignement and recognition was from her time in Afghanistan in early 2008.

In Jane's words "It's amazing to be recognized by my country for doing something that, for me, was an extraordinary opportunity. The Canadian military is absolutely amazing. I feel like I should be thanking them for giving me the opportunity to do it."

Jane Ramage will receive her award on Sept. 13th at CFB Borden.

Great Work Jane!

Here Here Wendy
written by Connie Johnson , August 18, 2009

I too am a co-worker of Wendy Michaud, Kicx 106 home town hero of the week and I just want to say that she is everything mentioned and if possible, more. I too have been on the receiving end of Wendys amazing compassion and drive and know for a fact that she is one of the most people oriented individuals around. She is the glue that binds our department together and I must say that my life has been made better by counting her as a friend. Few would step up as she so often does and she is an inspiration to us all. She is a model of what it is like to be a caring member of the human race.

Captain Brent Handy
written by heatherhamelin , September 26, 2009

Brent is most deserving of this honour. He is living his dream' He has always wanted to fly a jet. What better jet can you fly than an F 18. He has worked hard to obtain this and even when he was a youth he was involved and highly decorated Air Cadet. He did get home this weekend and treated his home town with some fly bys. Totally awesome to hear and then see. Keep up the great work Brent and be SAFE.

brent has always been a great grandson. Even as a 5 year old he knew what he wanted to be and aimed for the stars. he is lucky enough to have a supportive wife, wonderful son, and a loving, extended family in Ontario. Not everyone shoots for the stars and obtains their dream. He is my special Hometown Hero.

Elaine Casar by Jackie Debenham
written by Jackie Debenham , November 21, 2009

Elaine is a lady that works at Napoleon Appliance Corp. on Bayview Drive in Barrie's south end. I have worked with her for 13 years and every year she runs Salvation Army draws at work every pay week. Each year she has raised over $1,000.00 and invites the Brigadier each Christmas luncheon to present him with the cheque. She has worked tirelessly at this and doesnt stop there. She also takes care of the food drive and the adopt a family for our plant. She is someone who is very kind and helps out this organization without looking for any recognition from anyone. To me she is a real hometown hero and I would love to see her honorec for all her hard work.

John McCarthy
written by Janice Barnes , November 23, 2009

I remember John's community involvement going way back 30+ yrs ago...we had just bought a home in Angus as a young family with a preschool son. I admit we had small doubts on our decision as to location....Angus was suppose to have a bad rep. At the time John lived across the street from us WELL....how surprised were we on Christmas Eve when we got a knock on our front door just before bedtime....there stood Santa for a short visit with our son who was beyond excited about the whole visit = awesome memories...How bad a place can Angus be when the children get a personal visit from Santa???? Thanks to people like John who make our communities a better place.

Dr. Ted Smith
written by Shirley Ross , May 22, 2010

I am priviledged to say, I know Dr. Smith, he truly is worthy of being a "Hometown Hero", my only regret is that I did not think to do it myself. The countless ways in which this gentleman gives of himself is overwhelming, he is a wonderful, caring individual, deserving everything life has to offer. Dr. Ted, on behalf of my family and myself, we "thank you" for saving my/our husband and fathers life, making this world a better place....Congrats....
Sincerely.

Terri-Lynn Clemens - Home Town Hero
written by Helen Smith , August 04, 2010

I worked with Terri-Lynn a few years ago in Barrie,
What a surprise to see her name (not because she doesn't deserve it1) She deserves it!
I'm retired now and have lost touch with Terri but it's great to know that she is doing well and still totally outstanding. Way to Go Girl!

Sue Abram
written by Joanne , August 13, 2010

Sue is my cousin and everything her daughter says about her is truly who and what Sue is. She is the rock that keeps her family solid and even though we live hundreds of miles away, I know that all I would have to do is let her know I needed her and she woulld be there. She is loved by many, but we also know that she loves us too.
