Here is a reminder of what’s Open/Closed Victoria Day Monday.

Liquor and beer stores

There will also be No Bus Service in Barrie or Orillia Monday and GO Transit on a Sunday schedule.

No garbage collection in Barrie or Orillia Monday. It will be delayed a day this week. NOTE: There WILL be regular garbage collection in areas served by Simcoe County

Downtown Convenience Store Robbed at Knife Point

Robbery-Women Suspect

A downtown convenience store in Barrie was robbed at knifepoint Saturday night.

A women entered the store with a knife demanding money. The store employee refused and ended up with minor cuts on his arm, however the women did escape with some money. She was last seen running towards the lake from Dunlop St.

The female suspect is described as a white between 5’8”- 5’9′” tall, has a medium build and dark brown hair with a reddish tint. She was wearing a black & gold shirt, and a blue jean skirt.

Barrie Robber Caught and Charged

A 17-year-old Barrie youth has been caught, arrested and charged with robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon.

A hysterical man called police from a Yonge Street business Friday night to report that he saw the person who robbed him, just two days before. He stated that the suspect had pointed a handgun at him and stole his cell phone.

When police showed up they saw the suspect jump off a bicycle and run into a wooded area. Police later found out the suspects name and found him at his Barrie home, and what the victim had thought to be a hand gun turned out to be a pellet gun.

He now faces a future court date.

Ramara Township-Officially Declared a Disaster Zone

The Township of Ramara, officially declared a disaster zone, has qualified for the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program.

The government will provide up to $18 million in disaster assistance to municipalities affected by spring flooding, including Ramara.

The township entered a state of emergency April 23, one day after over-flowing water levels in the Black River.

Cats Missing after crash north of Orillia.

There were minor injuries today after a two vehicle collision on Highway 11  northbound  near Shoreview Drive in the Washago area. A car pulling onto the highway collided with a pick up truck, causing the truck to go into a ditch and roll over.  Both drivers sustained minor injuries. A Sebright woman has been charged with Failing to Yield.  As a result of the rollover, two cats that were in the pickup truck are missing. One is orange, wearing a collar and answers to the name of Archie. The other cat is black, white and brown, no collar and his name is Tyson. If anyone in the area of Shoreview Drive sees the cats they are asked to contact the Orillia OPP @ 1-888-310-1122.

Lockdown over at three Barrie Schools

A lockdown at three Barrie schools has been lifted. City police got reports of an intruder at St. Joseph’s High School just before noon today. They also locked down nearby Monsignor Claire and Ecole Frere Andre Schools as a precaution. We’re still waiting for word on what transpired, but police say everyone is safe.

Springwater Fire update

After 12 hours an industrial blaze in Springwater Township is finally out. A garbage and recycling plant caught fire late Thursday night and crews were able to keep the flames away from the office section of the building. But Fire chief Tony Van Dam says it took a while to douse all the embers and hot spots.

The damage is expected to top half a million dollars. The cause is under investigation.

There were two earthquakes near the Ontario-Quebec border around 9:40.They were felt through southern Ontario and Quebec and even into the maritimes. The first was a 5.0 magnitude and the second a 4.0. No damage or injuries have been reported

and Sunday at Canada’s Wonderland….
If you plan on holding your own display – the Lions and Springwater Firefighters will set up on Bayfield Street, across from Curries Truck Centre…
They are there promoting fire safety, selling burning permits, and answering any questions the public might have concerning fireworks and fire safety. All proceeds are re-invested in local events and activities….

Fire In Springwater Township

Crews from several fire departments were called late Thursday night to a blaze in Springwater Township between Barrie and Elmvale. They remained on the scene well into Friday. This is what it looked like in the very early hours of Friday morning, May 17th 2013.
