Perch Festival a go, despite cold and ice
The unusually cold spring is putting a bit of a damper on the 38th annual Orillia Perch Festival.
Local boat ramps are still frozen over, and ice and shoreline conditions are questionable. Despite all that, Organizer Doug Bunker says the fishing derby will open this weekend as planned – but he is asking participants to take safety precautions.
Bunker is also asking anglers for help in catching perch to tag. Anyone who drops off 10 live perch at the Blue Beacon Marina will be entered into a draw for $100 worth of fishing gear…
The opening ceremonies will be held Friday at 7 at ODAS Park…
The Perch Festival runs from Saturday until May 12th.
