THE BOATERS BLOG – Food Drive

This is a great idea – and I wish I could take credit for it, but alas, I cannot.

Beacon Bay Marina in Penetanguishene is one of the Parkbridge marinas in the Midland-Penetanguishene area. In a recent Facebook posting, they were promoting an initiative that they have established at their marina.

I think it is worth sharing.

We’ve reached the time of year where many boaters are starting to think about packing up and putting the boats away for the winter.

Anyone who is like me, will often keep a few non perishable items on the boat for “in case” – I have some cans of beefaroni, tuna, sliced potatoes, soups and of course pork & beans (great addition to any shore lunch, or add beans and a campfire meal for a rainy day).

But just in case you don’t feel like lugging it all back home with you – Beacon Bay Marina has put out donation boxes around the facility, encouraging boaters to leave it behind for the local food bank.

Fantastic idea.

They have agreed to spread the word to other Parkbridge marinas, but if you boat out of another marina – why not consider taking your leftover non perishables to the local food bank, or better yet, have your marina implement a similar program!

After all, we are pretty fortunate to have boats and should be thankful to enjoy that lifestyle - what better way to pay it forward than with a Thanksgiving Food Drive!

Until next week – Happy Boating!

Hey Carey, great idea. I just posted the link for this blog to Wye Heritage Marina’s Facebook page. Maybe other listeners can do the same for their marina pages? Cheers….
